


Wayang Kulit
(Kelantan)
Wayang Kulit is a traditional theatre and popular among Southeast Asian before the arrival of various arts, entertainment and electronic media. It is a form of theatre that uses the principles of light and shadows. Shadow of statues of various skin methology and imaginary characters are played by the Dalang (Puppet Master). Shadow puppet show is often accompanied by the beating or gamelan music group and also the Serunai. Wayang Kulit is presented in a form of leisure and educational purposes.

Kompang
Kompang is arguably the most popular Malay traditional instrument, for it is widely used for all sorts of social occasions, from National Day performances and official functions to signal the arrival of VIPs to wedding ceremonies, etc.
Resembling and played similar to the tambourine, this hand drum is most commonly played in a large Kompang ensemble, where various rhythmic composite patterns are produced by an interlocking technique, sometimes to accompany choral singing.

Dikir Barat
Dikir Barat is a form of singing. The origins of Dikir Barat is debatable, but most would accept it to be from Southern Thailand ot Northern Peninsula Malaysia. In an agricultural society, the Dikir Barat was performed as a ritual or celebration of the rice harvest season. Today, Dikir Barat performances are mainly for entertainment and competitions between Dikir Barat groups are also held. The basic elements of a Dikir Barat group are the two front men, the Tok Juara and Tukang Karut. A Dikir Barat group can be of any size

Tarian
(Malay Dance)
Tarian means dance in Malay. A dance and music historian Germany named C. Sachs has given the definition of dance as a rhythmic motion. Dance is the human soulspeaking through movement - a beautiful rhythmic language.
In the Malay culture, according to Jaafar Mampak, native Malay dances are divided into gentle dance (Mak Inang & Siti Payung) and vigorous dance (Ronggeng, Serampang Laut, Singapura Dua).

Angklung
Angklung is a musical instrument originated from Java, Indonesia, made of bamboo. Angklung has been recognised as world’s cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2010. This multitonal instrument comes in various sizes and requires teamwork to produce melodious music altogether. Back in those days of the Sundanese Empire, angklung was used to hype up a fighter’s spirit against an opponent. Shaking an angklung instrument may seem easy, but it requires practice as well as implementation of different techniques to produce a proper piece of music.
